Demons, Vampires, and Lawyers: A Scaredy Cat Bingo Update

Man, October is going by fast. Like I mentioned earlier this month, I’m participating in the Scaredy Cat Bingo reading challenge, and if I want to get a bingo by the 31st, I need to get moving.

Here’s my current board:

I’ve got two new additions since last week. The first is Biggs, Myer, and the Vampire by E.M. Lacey, which fits nicely on the “Bite Me” square.

Biggs, Myer, and the Vampire Cover

This book is based around a cool premise: a supernatural legal system where disputes between humans and magical creatures are settled in the “Night Court.” The villain is a vampire stalking the little girl on the cover for nefarious magical purposes. The girl’s guardian files a restraining order, and when the vampire tries to get around it, lawyers Biggs & Myer have to go beyond filing paperwork to protect their client.

This was a short, quick read that gave an interesting glimpse into an urban fantasy world and left me wanting to know more.

On the “Let’s Summon Demons” square, I’ve got Taming Demons for Beginners by Annette Marie.

Taming Demons for Beginners

A woman in trouble makes the best (worst?) ever deal with a demon. He has to protect her. In exchange, she’ll bake him cookies.

Yes, cookies.

There’s more to the story than that, but really, what more do you need to know? This was a light, super fun read.

And that’s all for now. Part of me wants to read strategically and get a bingo right away, but I’m such a mood-based reader that I’ll probably end up scattering Xs randomly across the board for the rest of the month. It’ll be fun though.

Do you have any good Halloween reads to recommend? Share your thoughts in the comments. 🎃
